How To Reach
You can reach Jogeshwari Caves (Gupha Tekdi) in Jogeshwari East, Mumbai (400060) most easily by local train or metro + a short walk/auto. The nearest local train station is Jogeshwari (WR) (about a 15-minute walk to the caves, or a quick auto ride). The nearest metro access is via Mumbai Metro Line 2A/7, with Jogeshwari (East) metro being one of the closest options (about a ~9-minute walk as per public-transit routing). If you’re coming by road, set your destination to “Jogeshwari Caves / Gupha Tekdi, Caves Road, Jogeshwari East” and take an auto/taxi from Jogeshwari/Andheri/Goregaon; the caves are located off Caves Road in Jogeshwari East.
Activities
At Jogeshwari Caves, visitors can enjoy a calm, self-paced heritage walk through the rock-cut complex, exploring the main hall, pillars, shrines, and carvings while noticing how light and space are used inside the caves. A great way to explore is to use the Audio Guide—scan the QR/URL and listen to location-wise stories as you move, which helps you understand the symbolism, history, and key highlights without needing a guide. You can also spend time on photography (especially of the cave façade and sculpted panels), do a quick architecture-spotting activity with kids (counting pillars, motifs, and figures), and take a quiet pause for reflection while respecting the sacred and heritage nature of the site.
Facilities
Facilities at Jogeshwari Caves are basic and limited on-site. The caves are reached via a stair approach from the surrounding residential area, and most convenience needs (tea stalls/snacks and small shops) are typically available nearby outside the site rather than inside it. Because the caves are in a busy neighbourhood, visitors should plan for limited organised parking and limited formal visitor amenities, and it’s a good idea to carry water and wear comfortable footwear.
